Madosini

Madosini will be performing at Zula on the 27th March.

She sounds rather interesting:
_Hailed as the ‘Queen of Xhosa Music’, Madosini Latozi Mpahleni was born amongst the Pondo, in the district Dlomo of the village of Mpheko near Umtata in the Eastern Cape . She learned to play uhadi at the age of 13, ‘and since then I never stopped!’

Her extraordinary music is unique, not just in its scope, but also in the variety and depth of the emotions she evokes.

As a singer, composer, storyteller, and master player of three traditional musical instruments: uhadi (bow), umrhubhe (mouth bow), and isitolotolo (jaw harp), she performs frequently around the country._

Am sorry that I only picked up on this now, but it just happened that I posted a 30-minute interview with Mantombi Matotiyana - the only other expert from the same region in Pondoland. (Yep - 2 left)

But Madosini is still always very close to my heart as she is a very special woman. Here is a live clip I made of Madosini @ Rhodes Memorial:
